There is a subtle incongruity about this image. Some features that some posters have seen as flaws add to the dream-like feeling of the scene.
The fact that the woman is not shadowed and grounded draws attention to the fact that her whole appearance is anachronistic. She seems to have been whisked from from contemporary ballroom into this Gothic palace.
